Remember Why You Started As A Nurse

Nurse

Currently I am in my DNP program, specializing in Executive Administration. I am also a Nurse Manager at an amazing health organization, HCA. Add to that Believer, Wife, Mother, Daughter, Friend, Entrepreneur, etc. I can tell you it is easy to get overwhelmed. Just the title of WOMAN comes with many factors, however to add NURSE is taking it to another level! My purpose for this blog is to remind you to remember why you started! Why did you become a nurse or why are you pursuing the nursing career?

If you are a nursing student, remember the excitement of possibly being accepted into nursing school…. now BOOM, you are an official nursing student. I know it is challenging, I know it has took literally blood, sweat and tears! Keep in mind your why!  Maybe you are an experienced nurse or been a nurse for only a couple of months, keep in mind your why! Why did you survive nursing school? Why did you study so hard to pass the NCLEX? Why did you go to that interview? Why did you accept your current position? YOU MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED!

It is vital as nurses to remember why we chose the profession of caregiving. During a shift you may get overwhelmed, you may not like the way  someone communicated to you, you may have had a bad experience with a family member of a patient, at all times, KEEP IN MIND YOUR WHY! Remember why you became a nurse!

Nursing is a beautiful career and we have the power to keep our mind focused on the positive when giving care. I know it can be challenging, remembering your why will help in those times.
